Hey Mr. Hoot,
This was a good one
I agree with the lesson. These days people are more bothered about their material belonging…they spend tons and tons of money on security for their homes and offices….but what security(loving relationships, emotional stability, personal satisfaction)have they got for themselves(their true self)??
….but the diaper lol…it was wicked funny

you hit the sweet spot right there. Our society puts on the impression that the more we have (financially) the happier we will be.
However, the truth is that life is meaningful not because how much it costs, but because how profound and deep it is.
And the only way to make it profound and deep is to have meaningful relationships with people, and passionate personal goals. Both of these things have little or nothing to do with materialism at all.
Hi Steven .. a good example .. with your excellent cartoons! Time is our most important asset – don’t waste it .. live life .. Zeenat’s comments hit the point most appropriately ..

This post is nothing compared to the material possessions I spend all my time making sure I remember that I have and can use to show off to others. The shinier something is, the more likely I am to showcase it.
Good call here though. I hadn’t thought about it like that. While we can add memories to material possessions, material goods don’t grow with us in any way, as they don’t change shape or something on their own. They have a purpose, and that is mainly it for them. Cool stuff. We don’t want to be that guy that gets in a tough predicament and realizes people are gone and there are only material possessions around, as that makes for a real struggle. You are right. For me, the materials themselves means absolutely nothing, it is the idea and the emotions that we have attached to it that grants meaning that grows on us.
However, the message behind this comic is that if you are too attached to your materialism, then you are going to miss out on aspects of your life that truly matters (people).
I agree with your last sentence. Unfortunately, western society craves for this type of image. It teaches us – the more we have, the happier we will be. Which is completely false. Because once we go down that road of focusing on material possessions, we are going to create a hole that is never going to be filled.
Anyways, thanks for your input man, truly appreciate it:).
My friend, I love this comic. At first, the message flew right over my head – I was saying to myself, “Well, yeah, I’m not going to wear diapers for the rest of my life, so what does that have to do with anything?”
And then it hit me.
People who are too attached to material possessions put out this vibe that kind of repels people, since they ignore the finer points of life, like relationships. That vibe is analogous to the stench the diapers put out… It’s like people repellent!
Haha of course I wouldn’t make a comic about not wearing diapers all the time…(at least not anymore…)
I have witnessed several people who were so attached to materialistic possessions – such as their incomes, that they would completely ignore the other parts of life that truly mattered…like PEOPLE.
keep up hittin’ the nail on the head on the moral messages behind my comics! – it makes me feel great haha.
Something to add: there’s a distinction between being attached to your career and to your material possessions. The latter sees the career as a means to an end (material possessions) while the former is really LOVING what you do. I have no problem with those kind of people – I actually really admire them
And that’s why I’m here, Steven. I love the comics, and the message. As long as you keep producing, I’ll be consuming your content. Keep doing what you’re doing because it’s LIGHTYEARS ahead of what other people are producing because it’s… different.
I know what you mean. Although I tend to not only look at strictly materialism as means of attachment that ultimately isolates people.
Materialism is only a part of it. People purchase more and more not because it actually makes them happy directly, instead it gives them a sense of fuller self. In other words, it makes them feel good about their identities.
People could achieve the same effect by going into the wrong relationships, wrong careers, getting a lot of money, useless educations, or just dishonesty. People can get extremely desperate when they want to believe that they are respected by others or just by themselves.
Anyways, I thank you for your comment! If it wasn’t for Cyanide and Happiness, this site wouldn’t exist
I tried hard not to draw like them, I hope I succeeded lol
That was awesome comic. The message can be interpreted in many many ways but I think a lot can be gained from it. Of course, ‘odd collections’ are a part of a person and so are individual quirks and attachments. And so is materialism, and so on and so one. Individually, we will each come up with our own interpretation that directly speaks to how we live and perceive our own life. So, I appreciate the humor and the wisdom within this! Kudos!

Hey John, thanks a lot! I figured pictures communicate better than words sometimes – as pictures are universally understood by everyone.
Thanks for reading

Hope you cut back on showing off Armen xD
That’s funny, Steven, that the orange diapers are still steaming on the grave marker.
Those are some STEAMY diapers!
I hope that I don’t have something like that hanging on my tombstone – hopefully there will just be a bunch of happy faces (from moments well lived).
Nailed it again, Steven.
Yee-haw!

I like the drawing, yet the message seems to also suggest that odd collections are ‘bad’.
I feel the only difference between him and an ‘unusual’ collector is that he also had a hygiene and perhaps a self confidence issue.
For me this comic seems less about an attachment to an object and instead shows an attachment to a destructive belief.
Yeah, well I am no way near as bad as the cartoon….
,….my diaper is yellow.
