  • Hey Steven.

Good point here. It might seem simple, but we often are living in, for example, 2008, or 2003, or so on. We might as well put that time aside, or else we’re repeating for no reason.

With a clean new year in place, we can reset the time slots in our mind, which is like clearing our e-mail inbox, and then work from there with a sense of organized effort. Some past open loops might be worth closing at this time.

    Accurate depiction here.

    • Exactly the point I’m trying to portray. I often feel like I’m still living in a mindset that I had back in 2005.

You are so right man and nicely described. “Reset the time slots in our minds.”

This year is a new chance to reset the timer and go on from here, all the things that happened in the past are so “yesterday”. lol

      Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Steven:

Nice way to start out the new year…I’ve been guilty of living in the past and even the future. But I’ve learned just how important right now really is…but yep, sometimes the past keeps yelling at me for attention. Thanks for this great reminder and best wishes for a great 2010!

    • Hey Tim, the past does keep yelling at us for attention. But at least we don’t completely live in it anymore!

I believe 2010 holds some great things for all of us, so what’s the point of staying back?

I hope you have a great 2010 Tim!

  • It’s a great point you make. I think often times we live in the past without evening realizing it. It’s a default reaction if the present isn’t going as well as we had hoped for. If we find ourselves daydreaming of the past too often, it’s a sign that we are clearly not where we should be in the present. It’s time to change, time to make a new start.

    • Hey Earl, thanks for the comment. You are right, we do sometimes live in the past without the awareness behind it. Sometimes I’d find myself thinking about what happened years ago, then wondering why I was even thinking about that in the first place…

It’s a tricky thing to stay in the present, but like all others it takes practice also to try to stay in the moment. I hope that one day most human beings will all stop dwelling in the past, and predicting the worst of their futures – but just appreciate what is important and what should be focused on.
